Viking River Cruises (0808 256 7697; vikingrivercruises.co.uk) ran its first cruises on the Irrawaddy in December 2012; six months later the 16-day holidays (three nights in Bangkok, a 10-night cruise and two nights in Yangon) on the Viking Mandalay were practically sold out. The cruises commence in January 2014.
